In Loving Memory of Egbert Obediah Messam - Given by: Granddaughter Jacqueline Messam.
Egbert Obediah Messam aka (Bert) or (Uncle Son)
Was Born 12th September 1923
In Cedar Springs, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica
He was one of eight children of which only 3 remain, his brother Man Man, Jimmy and his sister Nicey
He joined the Army, although under age, but it was what many young men did in those days.
He drove the Trains in Jamaica for many years until the chance to come to the UK came up.
He came to the UK in 1961. (Picture shows him in 1961 on the back of your programs)
He worked for William Press Ltd for more than 25 years and after retirement he ran a boys hostel for a further 10 years.
His children are (Paulette, Cleveland & Sharon (the twins) and Beverley. He also had a stepson Clinton (or as most of you know as Tony)
And his grandchildren are; (Charlene, Jacqueline & Renece) & 3 great grandchildren; (Cherelle, Lekai & Ciara)
Grandad was a well loved, popular man who fell out with as many people as he fell in with.
The first memory I have of my grandad, is him pushing out his false teeth and chasing me around his front room, which never seemed to get old and made me laugh each time.
I will always remember him as a happy man who was grateful for whatever was given to him and never disappointed to see us on his doorstep.
My last memory of my grandad is him in the hospital bed smiling and laughing just happy to see that he was loved. I can honestly say that I am happy that he left us knowing that he was not and never will be forgotten.
Whenever we said see you soon, grandad would always reply ‘if life spares’
Condolences
Sorry to hear of the familys loss.
I know how much you all loved you father.
Like all of us, his physical presence on earth has come to an end and he has now gone to claim his rightful place by the side of the lord.
God Bless and guide you through this time of sorrow.
Regards Michael, Shirley, Omah and Khelan.
